Salary (inclusive of London allowance): £31,778- £38,441 per annum (pro rata for job share)

Sights and Signs is a collaborative project between UCL, University of Linkoping (Sweden) and the University of Manchester. This project studies how deafness and experience of a particular sign language (British Sign Language or Swedish Sign Language) impact on the linguistic and cognitive processing of sign-based material with varying degrees of linguistic content, with the aim of furthering our understanding of the perceptual, cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying the semantic, phonological and non-linguistic processing of sign-based material.

The post-holder will manage the day-to-day running of the project, coordinate project meetings and all communication with the grant holders, imaging staff, technical and deaf liaison support workers, will lead on management of the budget and preparation of all the reports and publications.

This post is initially funded for 12 months from 1st October 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter. Responsible to: Professor Mary Rudner, University of Linköping. When in London, day-to-day supervision will be provided by Professor Bencie Woll.

Key Requirements
The post-holder should hold a PhD or other earned doctorate in a relevant subject area like psychology, linguistics or cognitive neuroscience.
Experience of functional imaging research, fMRI data analysis and relevant experimental psychology research and data analysis and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team are essential. Excellent communication skills are also essential to this role.
